Diverted Attention (2005)
Four-channel video installation, PowerPoint transferred to DVD (limited edition of 5)
infinite loop

"Diverted Attention" addresses the modes of experience and social interaction specific to a public space such as a gallery: browsing, negotiating the room, and interacting physically and socially with other visitors. When visitors enter the space, they become nodes in the network of relationships created by the work's game-like system. While the piece directs the actions of the participants, it is completely indifferent to their movements and continues to deliver its instructions whether or not it has an audience.
